Eight people were killed in five different small Clinton County communities as 50 homes were damaged or destroyed. The tornado started along Belmont Rd (KY 251) 0.7 miles west of Belmont, then traveled east-northeast through the community of Belmont, and lifting just east of Church Street. Mr Hammonds, another policeman on duty at the time of the storm, said that he noticed nothing like a funnel, but he observed a violent rotation apparently about a vertical axis in a black ominous looking cloud associated with the storm.
