General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder and bile ducts, and thyroid gland.  Also deal with diseases involving the skin, breast, soft tissue, and hernias.

General surgical procedures include treatment of various conditions outside the perview of other specialists  namely urologists, orthopaedic surgeon, neurosurgeon&cardiac surgeon etc.

These conditions can be superficial swellings or deep  and various abdominal &perianal diseases. Superficial swellings like sebaceous cysts,dermoids,lipomas,hydroceles,inguinal&femoral hernias epigastric hernias.These can be treated as day care procedures.

Deep swellings include intermuscular,sub fascial lipomas,thyroid swellings,lymph nodal swellings.
