Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)

ICSI is a micro injection technique which increases the success rate of infertility when compared to IVF. For some men their sperms are not capable of fertilising eggs in the usual way. In these cases, intracytoplasmic sperm injection method is offered. A single selected sperm is injected directly into the cytoplasam of egg, bypassing all the preliminary steps of sperm binding. ICSI increases the chances of fertilisation.

Adavantages of ICSI:

ICSI is the prefered procedure in the following conditions.

  • Severe male factor - Severe oligozoospermia i.e very low count as 1 to 2 sperms/field  or  sperms are of poor quality- In these type of cases also we can achieve successfull fertilisation with husband sperm thr' ICSI .
  • Absense of sperms in the semen (known as azoospermia) because of blockage  but sperms are present in the testes - these can be extracted by TESA i.e testicular sperm extraction.
  • Failed fertilastion with repeated attempts of IVF.
  • Use of frozen sperm - when sperms are limitted in number and quality.
  • Unexplained Infertility
  • Woman with chronic endometriosis

The fertilisation rate is more in ICSI
Ultimate result we want is a good take home rate with a live baby and happiness after the first cry of the baby.
